EcoMetrics has a variety of applications as evidenced in our growing national and international client base. We love creating new partnerships and exploring new geographies and applications for EcoMetrics.
The Comal Springs in New Braunfels, Texas has been one of those clients – as an integral part of the region’s natural resources with a long and rich history in the community, this area presented a unique opportunity for environmental stewardship and generating a variety of local benefits . For many years, the site was a water utility plant and operations center. In 2004, the utility moved the operations and left many of the buildings vacant. The nonprofit, Headwaters at the Comal, was established in 2017 by the New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) company to help restore the property, preserve this natural resource and “work to inspire the lifelong practice of experiencing, enjoying, and stewarding the cultural, ecological, and community resources that make New Braunfels and the Hill Country region a special place to live”.
EcoMetrics LLC provided an analysis of the social, environmental, and economic benefits of the Headwaters at the Comal project. Through this analysis, it was found that in addition to the environmental benefits already anticipated by the organization, there were also significant social and economic benefits valued in the project. The mission of Headwaters at the Comal to strengthen the relationship between the community and nature would occur through education, research, space for the community to gather, and environmental and ecological conservation. The EcoMetrics report and analysis highlighted that the value created for the community and New Braunfels, as well as the overall region, is significant and that this is a valid use of the property. EcoMetrics is proud to partner with organizations such as Headwaters at the Comal to demonstrate and measure the important impact of projects like this for the community.
